Bridal Gown
Cleaning & Preservation

A wedding dress is not simply clothing. The care it receives after your wedding determines whether it remains a treasured piece for decades or deteriorates from untreated stains and improper storage.

We clean wedding gowns with the chemical solvents and hand finishing techniques required for delicate fabrics: silk, satin, organza, lace, beading, and structured underlayers are all approached with the precision they demand. Nothing goes near a machine press.

Our Clean and Press service restores the gown to wearable condition. Our Clean, Press and Preserve service adds museum-quality archival storage: the gown is boxed in acid-free tissue with an archival preservation box, protecting it from yellowing, discoloration, and humidity damage over time.

We recommend bringing your gown in as soon as possible after your wedding. Wine, champagne, cake, and grass stains set into fabric over time and become significantly harder to remove the longer they sit.

Bridal Cleaning FAQ

How much does wedding dress cleaning cost?

At Sweetwater's Cleaners in Wainscott, NY, bridal gown cleaning and press starts at $350. Full cleaning, pressing, and archival preservation starts at $500. Final pricing is confirmed after gown inspection, as heavily embellished or structured gowns may vary.

What is the difference between bridal cleaning and preservation?

Cleaning and press means the gown is cleaned, hand pressed, and returned to you ready to wear or store on your own terms. Preservation includes the same cleaning and pressing plus archival boxing in acid-free materials designed to prevent yellowing and fabric degradation over time. Preservation is recommended if you plan to store the gown long-term or pass it on.

How soon after my wedding should I have my gown cleaned?

As soon as possible. Stains that appear faint immediately after a wedding can oxidize and set permanently over weeks or months. Sugar-based stains from champagne or cake frosting are often invisible when dry but will yellow and become very difficult to remove if left too long. The sooner the gown comes in, the better the result.

Do you clean vintage or heirloom wedding gowns?

Yes. We are experienced with older and heirloom gowns, including delicate lace, silk charmeuse, and hand-beaded construction. Each gown is examined closely before treatment to determine the appropriate cleaning method.

Where do you clean wedding gowns?

All bridal cleaning is performed at our primary location in Wainscott, NY. You may drop off at either our Wainscott or Hampton Bays location. We serve brides throughout the Hamptons, including East Hampton, Southampton, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, and surrounding areas.
