French-style cleaning is a standard of craft, not a marketing term. In practice, it means that after every cleaning, each garment is finished entirely by hand.
Machine presses apply uniform heat and pressure regardless of the fabric beneath them. That method damages structured shoulders, crushes delicate textures, and flattens the dimensional details that give fine clothing its character.
At Sweetwater’s Cleaners, a skilled presser works each garment individually, using the appropriate tools, temperature, and technique for that specific piece. Tailored jackets, silk blouses, formal gowns, and cashmere sweaters all receive the care their construction demands.
This is how it has been done at our Wainscott shop since 2004, and at our Hampton Bays location as well.

What is French-style dry cleaning?
French-style dry cleaning means every garment is hand pressed after cleaning, never machine pressed. We use a gentle, organic solvent that is safe for delicate fabrics and free of the harsh petrochemicals found in conventional dry cleaning. Each piece is assessed individually, cleaned to the specific needs of the fabric, and finished by a skilled technician.
Do you offer free pickup and delivery?
Yes. Sweetwater's Cleaners offers complimentary pickup and delivery every Thursday in Sagaponack, Wainscott, East Hampton, and Sag Harbor. You will receive a text reminder the evening before your Thursday pickup around 5:00 PM to confirm or skip that week. Submit a request online and we will confirm your first Thursday.
Where are your locations?
Our primary location is at 350 Montauk Highway in Wainscott, NY (631-537-5120). Our secondary location, SWC Clean & Tailor, is at 28 E Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, NY (631-728-3292). Both locations provide the same French-style standard.
How long does dry cleaning take?
Standard turnaround is typically two to three business days. Specialty items such as bridal gowns, leather, or heavily embellished pieces may take additional time. We will communicate a timeline at drop-off.
What is The Sweetwater Promise?

Do you clean household linens and comforters?
Yes. We clean fine sheets, duvet covers, down comforters, pillow cases, napkins, and tablecloths. All household linens are hand finished to the same standard as your garments.
